Gatefold card with interlocking mechanism
Card base
To make the card base, start with an 8-1/2” x 5-1/2” piece of cardstock
On the long side, score at the 2-1/8” and 6-3/8”
Fold the card base along the score lines
Cut (2) front panels from coordinating cardstock or design papers--- Cut one to 3-3/4 x 5-1/4, then cut in half to 1-7/8 x 5-1/4 creating two front panels. Adhere them to the outside front split panels
Cut (2) inside and back panels from coordinating cardstock---
4 x 5-1/4
Interlocking mechanism
Punch or die cut four identical shapes
Find the center by folding or using a ruler
On (2) shapes, cut a slit halfway up, stopping at the center
If your shape is not equidistant all the way around, make sure you cut up one but down on the other i.e., heart shape not circle shape
Interlock the two shapes together with the slotted cuts, making sure they align evenly
While keeping the shapes interlocked and closed, flat, adhere the two remaining uncut shapes to the interlocking mechanism on the top and bottom
Embellish and add to your gatefold card
